Sorority recruitment is one of the most exciting parts of starting college, but it can also feel overwhelming if you don’t know what to expect. Whether you’re a Potential New Member (PNM) preparing for rush week or a parent supporting your daughter, understanding the recruitment process is key to feeling confident and prepared.

At Bid Day and Beyond, we believe preparation removes pressure. Here’s your complete Sorority Recruitment 101 guide.

What Is a PNM?

A PNM, or Potential New Member, is a college student participating in sorority recruitment. During rush week, PNMs visit multiple sorority chapters, meet current members, and experience each chapter’s values, philanthropy, and sisterhood before receiving a bid.

Recruitment is a mutual selection process. This means both the PNM and the sorority chapters are deciding where the best fit may be.

How Does Sorority Recruitment Work?

While every university’s process looks slightly different, especially at large SEC schools, most sorority recruitment follows this structure:

  • Open House Round – Short introductory conversations with each chapter

  • Philanthropy Round – Learning about each sorority’s charitable work

  • Sisterhood Round – Deeper conversations about values and community

  • Preference Night (Pref) – A more formal, meaningful round before final selections

  • Bid Day – The celebration when PNMs receive and open their bids

Understanding this structure ahead of time helps eliminate unnecessary stress.

Why Preparation Matters

Sorority recruitment moves quickly. Long days, back-to-back conversations, and emotional highs and lows can feel overwhelming without guidance.

That’s why many students choose to work with a sorority recruitment coach. From resume help and recommendation letter organization to mock conversations and rush week strategy, having personalized preparation builds confidence before the first round even begins.

At Bid Day and Beyond, we offer 1:1 sorority recruitment prep designed to help PNMs feel ready, polished, and calm as they walk into rush week.

Confidence Changes Everything

Sorority recruitment isn’t about being prefect; it’s about being prepared. When PNMs understand the process, know what to expect, and feel confident in themselves, recruitment becomes an exciting opportunity instead of a stressful unknown.

If you’re preparing for sorority recruitment and want personalized guidance every step of the way, Bid Day and Beyond is here to help you feel confident, prepared, and ready for Bid Day.
